Written by: Rachelle Chery

Chadwick Boseman’s contribution to film and television through his iconic roles as King T’Challa, Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and James Brown will forever be in the hearts of millions around the world. Bosman was able to tell the stories of such amazing men who were able to change the course of history while he himself made history through his portrayal of Black Panther. As we remember the amazing person that was Chadwick Bosmen, I want to highlight some of his most notable roles.

This 2013 film features the late legend’s first lead role of many that Boseman has played in his career. 42 follows the life of the legendary Jackie Robinson who broke barriers and records as he became one of the greatest baseball players in history. Boseman astoundingly portrays Jackie Robinson’s strength and courage while perfectly paying tribute to Robinson himself. To honor Boseman’s legacy, the movie has been re-released in theaters nationwide.

Not only did Boseman play the first black professional baseball player, but he also played the first black Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall. The movie Marshall focuses on one of Marshall’s first Supreme Court cases, State of Connecticut v. Joseph Spell. The case is about Joseph Spell who had been accused of raping a rich white woman when in reality, the interaction between the two had been consensual.

Get on Up-

Chadwick Boseman was not only a great actor, but he had a great voice as well. So great that he played the part of the legendary James Brown in Get on Up. Get on Up follows a nonlinear narrative of Brown's troubling life that led to him being the great artist that he is Known as today. Boseman executed this role excellently as he bodied Brown’s iconic dance moves down to his unbeatable swagger.

Black Panther-

One of Boseman’s most notable films is one that we all know and love: Black Panther. Boseman brought our favorite Wakandan King and superhero to life. Black Panther follows the life of King T’Challa as he protects his country's riches from colonialism. With it’s predominantly black cast and breathtaking acting from Boseman and the rest of the cast, Black Panther is one of the highest grossing Marvel movies.

The films mentioned are just a few of many that Boseman had contributed to in his career. They show just a glimpse of Boseman’s talent and it is saddening to know that we will not get to experience more of Chadwick Boseman’s light in this world. He left his mark as a great man who brought to life many different legendary figures of history while becoming a great legend himself. Chadwick Boseman left a great legacy and he will never be forgotten.

Rest in Power King.
