A NEW ORDER:
Today President Donald Trump signed a new executive order on immigration. The order applies to people outside of the United States seeking to legally migrate to the US with some exceptions. For example, the order does not apply to investor visas and special immigrant visas for Iraqi and Afghan nationals who have worked for the US government. It is estimated that this order will block about 26,000 green cards monthly over its 60 day reign. “ This order will ensure that unemployed Americans of all backgrounds will be first in line for jobs as our economy reopens,” Trump said. “Crucially, we will preserve our health care resources for American patients. We have to take care of our patients, we have to take care of our workers. And that is what we’re doing.”
PROTESTING STAY AT HOME ORDERS:
Anti-quarantine rallies have been happening in many states and nurses have also been fighting back by advising people who are protesting to stay home. WHO said that these protests could lead to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
MISSOURI WANTS TO SUE CHINA:
Missouri is attempting to sue the Chinese Government. Their lawsuit claims that “Chinese authorities deceived the public, suppressed crucial information, arrested whistleblowers, denied human-to-human transmission in the face of mounting evidence, destroyed critical medical research, permitted millions of people to be exposed to the virus and even hoarded personal protective equipment- thus causing a global pandemic that was unnecessary and preventable.” Legal experts say that the lawsuit might be challenging because China is protected by sovereign immunity.
CORONA HELPING THE PLANET?
Covid-19 is terrible for the human population, but the planet is actually benefiting from the restrictions. According to https://www.instagram.com/earth/, air pollution has decreased, carbon monoxide emissions are down 50% in New York and the canals of Venice are clear and the skies of Delhi that are normally filled with fumes and industrial exhaust are blue during the day.
CELEBRITIES GIVING BACK:
Most celebrities are doing everything they can to help out during these tough times and these are just three that have showed up for those in need. Madonna teamed up with the REFORM Alliance to donate $100,000 dollars to jails and prisons for masks. Future’s Free Wishes Foundation has provided masks to healthcare workers in hospitals battling the Coronavirus and Cardi B teamed up with fashion nova for a campaign that promises to give $1,000 dollars to those financially suffering during the pandemic until they have given one million dollars total.
